If You Were Me and Lived In ... Egypt

Multicultural Children's Book Day 2022

Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of this book from the author as part of Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2022.

This book is part of the A Child's Introduction to Culture Around the World series

In this installment of the Child's Introduction to Culture Around the World series, young learners are transported to Egypt. Kelsea Wierenga's colorful illustrations work together with Carole Roman's clear and concise text to give learners a glimpse of the life of a child in Egypt. Told from the perspective of a child, learners are introduced to geography, common family names, popular foods, and a brief glimpse of Egyptian history. Roman provides a pronunciation guide for new or unfamiliar words and also includes a glossary of terms at the end of the book. Before reading aloud or together with your learner(s), parents or teachers may wish to familiarize themselves with cultural items of clothing. While they are included in the illustrations, they are not expanded upon in the text.

All in all, the simple text and colorful illustrations provide a gentle introduction to Egyptian culture and touches on the many common areas of life for children around the world.
